How I started photography
I started my photography journey doing family photography. My friends were in the time of their life where they were starting families so it seemed like a natural fit. I also love connecting with people and seeing how they grow over time. Connecting and seeing the story through is one of my favorite things about both medicine and photography. Seeing people through a problem and cheering them on during treatment and being a part of the celebration on the other side. I make an excellent cheerleader… without the skirt and pom poms.
Diversity in Family Photography
I love celebrating all kinds of families. I’m in an interracial marriage myself with a South African American. I’ve worked with a gay couple that had their kids via IVF and surrogate. I’ve done shoots with families that are happily unmarried with kids and have no plans for marriage. In short, I believe in diversity. I believe that you deserve to be celebrated no matter what your skin tone is, your religion or sexual orientation is. I’m so happy to say that my most recent sessions reflect these values.
It’s important to show this work and normalize families that aren’t represented in mainstream media. My friend Maryam Salassi of Hi + Hello Photography also shares this belief and has been recognized for her beautiful diverse work as well!
I’m so grateful for everyone who came out this season! This was my first group of Minis and I plan to continue offer Mini sessions seasonally. They’re a great way to try out my family photography if you’re not quite sold on booking a full session with me. I always try to make them as fun as possible so people don’t dread taking photos in upcoming sessions!
